FAQ's
Yoga actually means connection with the power of the universe. So Sahaja Yoga includes both yoga and meditation. While many Western forms of yoga mainly involve physical stretches, postures or exercises, this is not the case with Sahaja Yoga. For all practical purposes, Sahaja Yoga can be considered entirely as a practice of meditation.
Effective meditation involves achieving a state of thoughtless awareness, allowing your mind to rest. This experience fosters a deep connection with your true self and nourishes both your mind and soul. It facilitates spiritual growth and serves as a vital component of personal development. Additionally, meditation strengthens our bond with the universal primordial force or the divine.
Yes, the living energy, the Kundalini, is usually awakened on the first evening. This works for almost everyone. This process, which we call self-realization, is the key to yoga and meditation. Furthermore, the basics of how to meditate at home are taught. This is usually enough to continue at home on your own. Of course, you can ask questions and we try to answer them as clearly as possible.
This varies greatly and depends on yourself, it is determined by your own desire for personal and spiritual growth. The courses we offer last an average of 12 to 16 weeks, with weekly mediation meetings. However, you will find that it is faster if you meditate independently at home as well!
In-person Classes are held in different cities by different volunteer teams, usually at beginner, intermediate and/or advanced levels.
We also offer online courses that can be accessed via mobile and desktop devices.
In addition, there are courses or a one-on-one lesson for specific audiences (e.g., kids, yoga in the office, at festivals, etc.). If you would like to invite us to a meditation session at your club/association/organization, please contact us.
The meditation evenings usually begin with a short introduction to Sahaja Yoga meditation, focusing on one or the other topic. After that, there is often an excerpt from a speech by Shri Mataji, the founder of Sahaja Yoga, on video. This is followed by a guided or silent meditation and finally a workshop is held to work on the chakras. There will be an opportunity to get to know each other and ask questions.
Normally, such a meditation evening lasts about 60 minutes.
No. Whether you come or not is always your decision. However, testimonials show that most people progress much faster if you meditate at home as well as regularly participate in collective meditations. Some even come several evenings a week and find this a natural support for their growth. Group meditation can be deeper and more beautiful, as individual attention and the flow of energy is supported by others.
At the meditation evenings and workshops, a lot of further knowledge is also imparted and experiences and tips are exchanged. You can learn a lot about the chakras and different aspects of the subtle system and gain insights into the philosophy of Sahaja Yoga.
You will also experience how to balance your body, mind and emotions by purifying, strengthening and healing your own subtle system. Ultimately, it’s up to you how often you participate and what you take away from it. An important principle in Sahaja Yoga is: You are your own master.
Yes, Sahaja Yoga is free. Shri Mataji traveled the world to give the gift of Self-realization and to teach Sahaja Yoga for free.
Shri Mataji also emphasized again and again that one cannot pay for the truth, which is why Self-realization is offered free of charge in Sahaja Yoga.
You are welcome to contribute with a donation for the rent and maintenance costs, but you are not obligated to do so.
The meditation evenings are led by experienced Sahaja Yogis who will teach you the basics and support you in learning the different meditation techniques. They are all volunteers who are not paid for it.
In meditation, we usually sit comfortably on armchairs or on the floor and the state of meditation is reached effortlessly and spontaneously. No special movement exercises (asanas) are necessary; You don’t need a mat or yoga clothes. Just come as you are.
